Happy summer!
Do you want to hear the Sad Farm Story?
The spring was long and cold, and we had some major rain in June which has delayed our already short growing season. In addition our sheep herd has suffered a terrible hoof virus that we’ve been working to control. On top of that we had our scheduled slaughter date cancelled for our USDA slaughter (this is the only way we can sell retail meat) due to equipment failure, and right after that our turkey slaughter date was cancelled due to equipment failure! This is all terrible, however it’s part of farming. If you can’t roll with the punches, farming is not for you! Luckily Phil is adaptable and we’re figuring it all out.
It has been a tough growing year, but we finally have enough produce to supply our farm shop! Lamb is almost sold out, and we won’t have more until September (the next closest slaughter date we could get). Turkeys are happening – I have about 75 available! I will be processing them on farm with our on-farm poultry permit in September, and they will go up for sale after that. Watch for an email announcing turkey availability. In addition, we have honey! So many good things happen in the sunshine. I hope you’re all enjoying your summer. -Jen
